Invitation to Volunteer for Malaysian East Coast Floods: 世界宣明会需要自愿者帮助水灾灾民: Heavy monsoon rains in the northern and eastern regions of Peninsular Malaysia have caused unprecedented flooding. World Vision Malaysia (WVM) will be partnering with CREST, a local relief organisation, to provide relief to those who have been affected. We are also calling for volunteers to help us with various tasks in Petaling Jaya/Kuala Lumpur and Kelantan. We will confirm the dates, time and venue with you later. (You may need to register as a member of World Vision Malaysia if you are not a member yet) The following are some of the criteria we seek in a volunteer: - Responsible and proactive - Aged 18 years and above - Able to work as a team to: **Volunteers will need to bear their own expenses (transport, accommodation, meals, etc), health and safety. 1. Help (re)pack food/non-food items into kits (from Petaling Jaya/Kuala Lumpur area) CREST and other NGOs are already collecting items, and they need volunteers to help in (re)packing at some of the collection sites. 2. Distribute relief items on site (Kelantan) Volunteers will have to do this pro bono**; we will provide more details later. Before going, WVM will brief you on your tasks, dos and donts, things to bring, etc. 3. Help in the cleaning up of homes (in the affected states after the water has receded) This will be at a later stage. It is also pro bono**. 4. Assist by providing professional skills i.e. medical background, logistics For those who have these skills, we will need your assistance for the current relief phase or later. Provide contacts with logistics capabilities Accessibility to those affected is severely limited owing to the current flood situation. If you have contacts in the logistics sector (land or air), kindly let us know so that we can use their services (helicopters, 4 wheel drive vehicles, big trucks/8 tonne trucks, fuel for boats etc.) to bring aid to those in need.
