Invitation to the AIT Community Members for the Active Participation in a Project Entitled “Promoting Participatory Homestead Sustainable Vegetable Production to AIT Community” On behalf of The Food, Agriculture and Bio Systems (FABS) Cluster at the School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) The Food, Agriculture and Bio Systems (FABS) Cluster at the School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD), AIT has initiated a project under the ‘AIT Green Campus Initiatives’ entitled “Promoting Participatory Homestead Sustainable Vegetable Production to AIT Community” with the funding support from the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME). The overall objectives of the project are: (i) promote the utilization of unused AIT land for vegetable production through community involvement, and (ii) generate interest among the AIT community to grow safe, nutritionally enhanced, and healthy vegetables/food without any chemical inputs (sustainable production of chemical residue-free vegetables). The demonstration area of the project is located at the AFE Research Farm of AIT. The planting of five vegetables on the ten demonstration plots was completed in June 2014. Under the project, we aim to allot an additional ten plots for the interested AIT community members. The objective of this is to motivate the community to grow and use the chemical residue-free vegetables from own garden or unutilized AIT land. The project will initially provide land preparation and irrigation free of cost. The project will also supply planting materials such as seeds, composts, etc., to the interested AIT community on subsidized costs. The interested AIT community members are requested to actively participate in the project and grow chemical-residue free vegetables on their own for being healthy.
