Iowa City Police Department releases new series of Cop Cards --------------------------------------- The Iowa City Police Department has released the sixth set in a series of Cop Cards, a trading card public relations campaign designed for police officers and the public to meet and get to know one another in a positive way. Each card includes a photo of the police or K9 officer, a short biography, and a safety message. The 2015 collection features 35 department members from six divisions: Patrol, Investigations, Command, Animal Services, Community Service, and Communications. The cards, which were first issued in 1993 and then in 1995, 1997, 2002, and 2008, have been quite popular through the years. The 2015 set offers more cards than ever before, each of which offers a friendly opportunity for officers and residents, especially young people, to interact. Many people request officers signatures on the cards and try to collect the entire set. Officers will be passing out their individual cards while on their beats, and each week one of the officers cards will be featured on social media, including Facebook and Twitter. The featured card will also be available at the information desk of the Police Department in City Hall, 410 E. Washington Street. The cards are available to the public at no charge.
