Iris Tyler is my wife and love of my life, and loves this sort of history. The photos are of a time when my mom and my aunt (dads older sister) worked as curriers on the steamers, mostly the SS Catalina, but sometimes the SS Avalon. My mom is on the bottom row on the right, and my aunt (Jenella Tyler), who was in charge of all the curriers, is at the top of the stair on the left, My mom (then Rosemary Snipes) on the single picture would ride the red car (street car) from Altadena to Wilmington (where the freight line is now and the photo on the right) over an hour each way to make the trip over and back. My dad (Ted Tyler) worked as a cab driver during the day and was the spealer (announcer) on the flying fish trip nights with Dave Gemileres dad as the skipper. He also sold tickets on the pleasure pier for Island Co tours at a booth next to the Miss Catalina speed boat rides. This was pre WWII maybe 1939 of so.
