Irishtown FC 2 V Whitehall FC 2 A very entertaining first game of the season in Ringsend Park saw the sides finish even. A very warm Sunday morning in the park saw the honours shared. Irishtown will probably look at this as a couple of points dropped though. IFC went 1 up around the half hour mark courtesy of Brian Bridgeman, and the home side pushed on after that. Some half chances came and went and IFC lead as the half time whistle blew . A welcome half time saw the lads take on plenty of fluids as the warm weather continued. The second half began again with Irishtown being the better of the 2 sides. The management used the available subs as best they could, as the warm weather and hard work from the players began to take its toll. Unfortunately a lack of players meant the players on the bench were being used frequently IFC went 2 up shortly afterwards when last years Player of the Year Patrick Kavanagh scored his first of the season. A well worked play from the back down the left wing to Alan Kiernan, who crossed for Pato to convert. 2-0 up and we were well on top. Some more half chances went a begging, and this was to prove costly by full time. Whitehall scored their first from their right wing with a power full header to the top corner. At 2-1 up IFC should have seen the game out, but alas it wasnt to be. IFC tried to get another to finish the away side off. The warm weather took its toll as players tired. In fairness this was due to the very hard work, and continuous running by all involved. Whitehall got their equaliser with 6 or 7 mins to go. Again a header at the back post from a good cross from the left wing after a short corner. So 2-2 it finished, As previously said probably a game we should have won, and the players felt disappointed with the final result. However that said, the overall performance was excellent and 2-2 was not a bad result, as the visitors themselves are a very good side, and will take points from other teams. A special mention to 2 players who jointly won the MOTM today, Alan Kiernan and Alan Murray. Mr Kiernan for hard running up front and Mr Murray for his excellent performance in defence. In fairness everyone performed well today, and possibly the fact we had small numbers to choose from on the bench didnt help us overall. Well done to the Management today, and a big thanks to all those who enjoyed the weather in the park and stayed to look at the game. Also praise for the IFC Flag carrier TJ Murphy, who got every side line decision right every time......!!!!!!!!!!! and to our very professional ball boy for the day Jason ( I cant believe I am Injured again) McDonnell who never kept the opposition waiting for a ball!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So there we have it folks, a very entertaining mornings football in the park, played by athletes in the prime of their careers. We hope to see more of our supporters in the park in the future to cheer the lads on.
