Irvington Area! 1. Garage breakins seem to be up. On Wednesday, at least two garages were broken into in Irvington Terrace, south of the golf course during early morning hours. One resident reported thieves took an electric tiller, 6 ft and 20 ft aluminum ladders, string trimmer, leaf blower, shop vac, fishing gear, tent and air mattress. There have also been garage breakins in the SW corner of Ellenberger during the past month. 2. An arsonist(s) is setting fires on porches in the Emerson Heights area. One resident caught video footage of the suspect stepping onto the porch to attempt to light chair cushions on fire. The suspect left on a ten speed bike. He was not successful at this home but other fires were reported in the area. Ellenberger United Church of Christ at 10th and Ritter reports two recent breakins. A bag of Discover Coupon Books was stolen 9/10 and nothing seemed taken during the second breakin on 9/17. 4. The Crime Watch block captain for 900 block of Ritter reported this incident: ...notified about a suspicious incident that happened yesterday (Monday) around 7:00pm in the 900 block of North Laymen. One of our neighbors was in front of their house bringing in the trash dumpster. They had their dog with them. A tan pick-up truck started to drive by. The truck was driven by a think-looking, white male with two other individuals in the truck. The truck stopped and the driver began to approach the homeowner. When asked if they needed anything they said no, yet continued to approach. At one point the drive stopped approaching as the neighbor’s dog is quite large so apparently he became uneasy with the dog. The driver just went back to the truck and took off. The homeowner said the entire incident just felt “strange” from the point of their approach to them taking off. Please keep an eye out for this truck and be very cautious if you see these people around. Also be very aware of what’s going on around you when you’re outside. 5. Some Irvington residents reported on the Irvington Neighbors Facebook page that cars were also gone through. 6. Please plan to attend IMPD East District at Golden Corral Buffet & Grill at 10220 E.
