Is Easter a good time to investigate a new future ? Have you got what it takes to help investigate crime in Staffordshire? An awareness evening about the role of an investigative officer will be held at police headquarters ahead of recruiting 12 new investigators. The session on Tuesday 22 April will allow people who are interested in the type of work to find out more. These investigators are not police officers and a policing background is not necessary to fulfil the duties. Staffordshire Police first appointed investigative officers in 2007 and they work alongside police officers in different parts of the force. We have been reviewing how we can support investigations by using a mix of people and skills. These members of staff provide investigative support by using a wide range of evidence gathering techniques. The role is to assist detective constables in criminal investigations and in the preparation of files of evidence for court cases. The work also includes viewing CCTV footage of a crime scene and carrying out research about a suspect in preparation for interview by a detective. We are currently looking to recruit 12 people. They don’t have to have a police background as they could have worked for other organisations and have investigative skills and background. Investigative officers are required to work a shift basis, rotating between 8am and 10pm, 7 days a week and sometimes there may be a requirement to work outside of these hours. The awareness evening will take place on Tuesday 22 April 2014 at Staffordshire Police Headquarters, Weston Road, Stafford. The event will help those who believe they have what it takes to understand the role and what will be expected of them. Places are limited and serious about joining this team can book their place by visiting socsi.in/uGsPD. Applications for the roles will be via an online recruitment process and those interested in applying should visit socsi.in/rKxYJ The closing date for applications is 5pm on Monday 28 April 2014. Those applicants shortlisted must be available to attend assessment centres during week commencing 12 May and interviews will take place week commencing 19 May.
