Is Rekha not doing Umrao Jaan sequel? Though director Muzaffir Ali was eager to rope in the veteran actor for the sequel of his 1981 blockbuster, we hear Rekha isn’t too keen to be part of the film. Muzaffir Ali wanted to make a comeback in Bollywood and hence asked his good Javed Siddiqui to the write the screenplay of Umrao Jaan’s sequel. Ali even wanted his original heroine Rekha to do a cameo in the sequel of his 1981 blockbuster which also starred Farooque Shaikh and Naseeruddin Shah. While Rekha’s breathtaking performance in Umrao Jaan earned her the prestigious National Award, the B-town diva, it is believed has turned down the offer to act in Umrao Jaan 2. Reportedly, the sequel is centered on Rekha’s character who sets out to take revenge from her enemies from the first film. Muzaffir Ali and Javed Siddiqui worked together three decades ago on Umrao Jaan. And while the two have come together once again for the sequel.
