Is This A Factor In The Recent Tragedy? 11 Irish greyhounds suffocate in van enroute from Ireland to Spain. It is not shocking to hear that Irish greyhounds are ending up in Spain. This has been going on for years but I wonder if the recent increase in straight line racing in Spain could be a sign that more greyhounds will be shipped to Spain and more tragedies are in store? Following several galguero sites and blogs I have noticed this year an increased level of interest in straight line racing, usually 1000 meters. New racing clubs have organized and scheduled whole series of races for dogs to compete/train in leading up to the hunting season in October. My suspicions were further alerted after reading a post from a galguero very recently. Opinions wanted on UK greyhounds. I want to know if buying a pure greyhound would be worth it. I would run the greyhound during hunting season in areas where the distance would not be too great, run maybe 3-4 hares a week and depending on the dog I may have success. Of course when hunting season is over I would run the dog in straight races. He would be more fit and prepared after hare season. Also are crossed greyhound with galgo better at straight line than pure at that distance? If you have spent any money and have personal knowledge, your opinion would be well received. I surely dont know if these greyhounds were on their way to participate or cross breed for straight line racing but it is a disturbing possibility.
