Is This true? Protestantism is so thin that when one does not fully believe in the concept, one can easily break the thin wall of it and come out on the other side as Atheist... Please read and comment, Ill publish your comments and the original note to me on my blog... Heres a personal message I got, then asked permission to post... From: Paul J Evans Dec 3rd, 9:58pm Hey Frank, I appreciate a lot of what you have to say. Though I have not read any of your books. I notice many people on your site tell you their story of leaving Evangelicalism and Fundamentalism. I am also a person who has left, I went to Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa Ga, one of the classes that is required there is a class based off your fathers book How Should We Then Live?, they even use the old videos of his lectures. So the school is very entrenched in this form of Christianity. After 4 years of going there, my faith crashed. I then spent the next three years rebuilding my faith, believing in God but not embracing what I believed, but forming my own belief system. I then went back to TFC to graduate, I did this to see if my new belief system could withstand their belief system, since it destroyed it last time I was there. I not only survived it, my own belief system grew while I was there. I started to understand their belief system. One of the things I disagree with concerning you is that you have to be Liberal/Progressive in your leaning to counter the Christian Right. I think that is the trap of the system that you have to be Either/Or to be correct or wrong. I studied Philosophy when I was at TFC and I am attempting to start my PH.D in Philosophy at UGA. One of the things I am interested in studying is the philosophy of Nihilism. What I have seen and come to believe is that Protestantism is now a fully Nihilistic belief system. Nietzsche defined Nihilism as the devaluation of Values. In this case, God has been devalued. What I have noticed is that when Protestantism, in Americas case Fundamentalism and Evangelicalism reached the point of being more devalued than valued, new ideologies form. In most cases they are radical political philosophies. In Germany, when it was ongoing there, Lutheranism was more devalued, we started to see the creation of Marxism, Socialism, and other forms of radical political philosophies stemming from former Lutherans and former or Nihilistic Germany, leading to eventually Hitler. Who was the sound and sight of the Death of God in Germany. Whereas, in America, when Fundamentalism became very devalued in the late 1800s, what took its place was the Political Philosophy of Progressivism. Which is the main enemy of the Christian Right. As Marxism and such became the enemy of German Christianity in the 1800s, progressivism is the enemy of American Protestantism. In fact, American Protestantism is the parent of Progressivism. One thing I noticed concerning Atheism, is that Atheism cannot exist without Protestantism. My conclusion has become that Atheism is the child of Protestantism. Look at the Apologetics movements. The entire point of them is to ensure that Protestants dont become Atheist, yet many Protestants become Atheist. The reason I believe that happens is because the belief of Sola Scripture within Protestantism is so thin that when one does not fully believe in the concept, one can easily break the thin wall of it and come out on the other side as Atheist. Which I believe, Sola Scripture keeps Protestants from becoming Atheist. So Apologetics is about defending the indefensible? As I walk down my path, this is where I have ended up. Just wanted to share my story with you.
