Is anyone else following the story about the Miami Dolphins football player, Martin, who left the team over bullying from another teammate? NPR had a story tonight and they kept searching for the class/race card, but I see it as a gender issue. Its the identities of masculinity that want our men to man up and stop being so weak and learn to take those asshole, bullying comments in stride. After all, its just locker room culture right? WRONG. Dehumanising men and boys begins with demanding them to be less than full human beings, with feelings, and emotions, and dignity. Bullying is not okay, and standing up to bullying doesnt make someone weak and it isnt some liberal upper-class privilege that gives athletes the courage and the strength to say ENOUGH! I stand against bullying. I stand with Martin.
