Is anyone else watching the Roosevelts? Its fascinating and eerily familiar. Corporate greed and banking corruption collapses the US economy. A Democrat is elected President, and undertakes massive government efforts to save the nation, like the WPA, TVA, NLRB, and Social Security. Banks and big business hated him because he taxed extreme wealth and used it to help the poorest Americans. An obstructionist Republican congress did its best to thwart his every effort - they even refused to allow anti-lynching bills to be debated! They called him an elitist, a socialist, and even a communist. They talked about impeaching him. A right wing Supreme Court took aim at his most significant programs. His support came from immigrants, African Americans, and the working class. And the world was headed to unspeakable terror as Nazis ravaged Europe, stealing, raping, and murdering their way to power. Anti-immigrant sentiment on the Right even raised its ugly head to argue against the US taking in European refugees. Different verses, same song.......
