Is it I? Mark 14:17-19 “And in the evening he cometh with the twelve. 18 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me. 19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I? The evening of the “Last Supper” the Passover meal, Jesus arrived in Jerusalem. The Passover meal began after sunset and had to be finished before midnight. As they (Jesus and His men) dipped the bread in the bitter herbs and partook of the roasted lamb; Jesus announced that one of them would betray Him. One that followed Him closely, listened to His Words, saw His miracles, and pretended to love Him would betray Him to his assailants! Immediately they inquired, each of them, stating, “Is it I?” In the Greek this would read, “It is not I, is it?” Jesus revealed the culprit by expressing that it would be the next one to dip with Him in the dish; it was Judas. Then Jesus proclaimed a stern alarm; “The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.” The word “Woe” is one of the strongest condemnations or statements of judgment in the Bible. Centuries have passes since that event. However that episode has been repeated over and over. Many that have walked with God, grown up in Christian homes, attended Christian schools, etc. have walked away from the faith. And, I am sure that it will happen again. Maybe, what all of us should be asking is: “Is it I?” Let’s protect ourselves by staying faithful to God. Remember, “Woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed.” We should fear greatly to be found unfaithful when we meet Him. Pastor Wilson (3-5-2014)
