Is it a bird?, Is it a plane? No its the Blue & White superstars from COLERAINE! NIBFA U16s Subway National Youth League CFCA 3 - 1 Sion Swifts The Coleraine FC Academy U16 squad channelled the powers of Superman this Saturday following their attendance at the Dan Abrahams Sports Phycologist seminar in which he had talked to the squad about the importance of mental preparation to their games and positive body language. Each one of the players in Blue & White acted as Superman by putting in a superhero display against Sion Swifts at Ulster University and returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory. Coleraine welcomed back Callum Howard from injury and the big man did not disappoint on his return as he dominated the early stages of the game coming close on several occasions with two early free-kicks. Sion Swifts were reduced to ten men in the fourteenth minute and Coleraine began to make use of the man advantage. Kryztoff Sialkowski was in fine form in the heart of the Coleraine midfield linking up well with Peter Rankin and Tyler Golligher. A defensive mix up between the Swifts defenders and goal-keeper led to an own goal and a lead for the home team going into the half time break. Jordan Pollock was playing with plenty of confidence and demonstrated fantastic skill with Sialkowski in a neat passing move throughout the pitch. Ciaran Hall was kept busy and pulled off save after save in which the visitors struggled to get a goal. The Swifts were awarded a penalty early on in the second half and took full advantage of this offer and slotted the ball into the back of the net to level the game. Ciaran Hall continued to infuriate the visitors after saving several one-one-one opportunities and kept his side well in the game. Peter Rankin began to find his goal-scoring touch again after several chances in the second half and put Coleraine back into the lead in the twenty-fourth minute with a thunderous strike after a well worked piece of play from his team mates to set up the in-form striker. Rankin was the kryptonite to the Sion Swfits defence as they struggled to stop the Kilrea man again in the final minute of the game as he slotted the ball into the back of the net for his second of the game to secure all three points for the Bannsiders. U16s manager Gary McCloskey aka Lex Luthor was happy that this group of very talented young players have been rewarded for their efforts with a victory and hopes that they may be able to take this result and build upon it in the run in to Christmas and put together a series of good results when they visit derby rivals Ballymena United next Saturday and Magherfelt Sky Blues before the Christmas break. As always; The Futures Bright, Its Blue & White! MOTM: Ciaran Hall
