Is it important to buy organic food for your children? Opinions - TopicsExpress

Is it important to buy organic food for your children? Opinions vary widely. The AAP says there is inadequate data to know the long-term effects. Dr. B respectfully disagrees. As the grandchild of an organic soybean and dairy farmer, I grew up hearing my grandfather talk about how crops and animals concentrate the things you feed them. Since we don’t have data to prove the harmful effects of pesticides over a lifetime, let’s try a conservative approach and minimize our kids’ exposure. Does every item need to be organic? No. That’s expensive. I believe a metered approach stretches our food dollars to organic where it matters most. Peaches, apples, bell peppers, celery, strawberries, cherries, lettuce, pears, spinach and potatoes are rated by the Environmental Working Group as the items with the highest number of detectable pesticides. What about milk? I vote for growth-hormone-free milk if you can afford it.
