Is the government want Peace or Pieces. Rajapaksa Mahinda to decide. Mr President every time you leave the country you have a hidden agenda for Sri Lanka . Forum for Peaceful Coexistence, Sri Lanka A Group of Professionals and Social Workers in Sri Lanka Muslim and Religious Organizations object to granting of Visa to Myanmar Extremist Monk Wirathu It is reported that the Extremist Monk Wirathu from Myanmar is due to visit Sri Lanka in the coming days. He is said to be scheduled to attend the BBS conference to be held on Sunday 28th September. Rising to prominence in 2001, when he created a nationalist campaign to boycott Muslim businesses, Wirathu was jailed for 25 years in 2003 for inciting anti-Muslim hatred but freed in 2010 under a general amnesty. Since his release, Wirathu has gone back to preaching hate. Many believe his words inspired the fighting last June between Buddhists and ethnic Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine state, where 200 people were killed and more than 100,000 displaced. The man that Time Magazine dubbed ‘The Face of Buddhist Terror,’ Leader of the 969 Movement in Myanmar, who is notorious for his anti-Islam rhetoric, Ven. Ashin Wirathu Thera, will be arriving in the island on an invitation by the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS). This invitation was reported in March this year but the date was kept secret. Now it seems the date has arrived and he will be part of group of Monks from Myanmar. Other Monks from the Asian region are also said to be attending this conference. Gnanasara is reported to have stated the objectives of this conference – “Buddhist countries in the Asiatic region are facing difficulties and even violence from the Muslims and the other religions in the region. The best example comes from Thailand, Myanmar and Bangladesh. This is the very reason why Ven. Wirathu decided to start the 969 Movement in Myanmar. We visited Thailand and Myanmar and we will be visiting other countries in East Asia. We will definitely be starting an international network with global reach with likeminded Buddhist civil society institutions, Buddhist scholars and Buddhist activist organizations in these countries. With Ven. Wirathu Thera we will be discussing strategic plans for at least a regional network for the time being, for which we need a concrete plan,” Meanwhile Muslim and other religious organisations have registered their strong opposition to the granting of visa to this extremist monk. In a letter addressed to the The Controller of Immigration and Emigration, and copied to His Excellency the President and the Secretary of Defence, they have pointed out that – ‘His presence and speech at the meeting may incite further violence against the Muslims, similar to the speech of Ven. Galabode Aththe Gnansara Thero’s made in Aluthgama which caused the rioting in Aluthgama and Beruwela in June 2014. The full text of the letter is given below. Hate is nt preached by any religion by only by these un practicing monks. Religion is to follow to become a better human or else humans become worse than animals. That’s why God sent religion for. So each individual has their own rights for their belief n to accept it or not or to practice upon it by not opposing others belief. Belieif is nt by force like d BBS does. So violance Cn never improve even a religion. BBS should knw hw to preach their religion if they r worried of extinction not by violance. So Dnt allow visa cos He is named a terrorist monk.
