Is there a more oblivious form of stupidity than the man who mocks Christians for blindly believing the Bible while he blindly believes the words of any man who claims the title of scientist? For the overwhelming majority of Americans who claim to be atheists, science is simply the name of their religion, with its own never-seen higher power, clergy, prophets and thoughtless masses of sheep; not an applied process of hypothesis, experimentation and conclusion. They hear that a group of scientists agree on something (undoubtedly the small group that get their words publicized by mainstream media), and without witnessing any actual evidence or proof, they believe fully, just as most members of a congregation would believe fully in an interpretation of the Bible, agreed upon by the whole of the board of church deacons, without taking any time and effort to apply study, reasoning and thoughtful deduction on their own. I think its time atheists stop claiming the name of science with such arrogance and be honest about what it is they really believe in: scientism, a religion based solely on the publicly stated opinions of self-proclaimed scientists given airtime on television and pages in journals published by their peers, so long as those opinions give no weight or recognition to the possibility of a power greater than the human mind that is capable of intelligent creation.
