Is this child special? I was asked to comment on this. My answer is: More math. :) This child is one I would enjoy spending time with. I think you might be surprised asking many children about these topics. The young human brain is the most powerful learning machine we know of. As I discussed in my show about history today, What are you putting in your kid? For me the biggest success from my study of education was my recognition of learner driven experiences are the most powerful form of education. The question for this young learner becomes, what do you afford him next? The questions that were not asked are those that most people dont reflect on for the young: now what? The project I am working on specifically seeks to answer that question, I cant say much more yet, but it is the ONLY reason Im not down saving those kids at the border. I have many more things to say, but the most important is: If you enjoyed this, then cause this in your life. It is cliche but the children are the future and what we are leaving them at this time, aint so pretty. We need not cloud their attention with the mud. Awareness is enough. If they seek more, then it is available. Comfort is a rare commodity on spaceship earth. I would seek to facilitate feelings of security and well being in any young human, but... and theres always a but. More knowledge does not bring comfort, in my experience 100% the opposite. So it becomes a question of what is driving you to influence this human. If you are really thinking about the future of all young people, then science is truly the only hope, and the way we get there is through experiential learning. Would you put this young mind into a no-windowed chemistry lab for hours a day? I wouldnt? (I might) But maybe he would if given the opportunity. Ill end with this. It stings a bit. Are you raising a kid, or are you raising a genius. Chew on that. Be well and enjoy.
