Is this one last plea? g The paper petition to Parliament has now 1581 signatures. Half of which have been collected by Durham and Tees Valley Napo branch. The petition will be presented to the House of Commons before the Summer recess which falls on Thursday 18th July 2013. Anne Main MP for St Albans has agreed to present the petition. We have just to agree the date. The deadline set to receive petitions is this Monday 8th July. This is obvious just one prong in the campaign to Save Probation. This is a last minute ‘petition’ to at least circulate this petition in your offices tomorrow Friday and return them to Napo Chiltern Counties , 72 Chapel Street , Luton LU1 5DA. https://facebook/pages/Petition-opposing-Privatisation-of-UK-Probation/178117945690323?fref=ts Why a paper petition? At one point the epetition was put out in paper form. It was soon discovered that a paper petition could not be combined with the epetition for numbers. The epetition is a Government initiative , paper petitions are the responsibility of Parliament. This led to a dialogue with the Clerk for Public Petitions at Parliament. The attached petition was approved by the aforementioned office. For further information on petitions see links below parliament.uk/get-involved/have-your-say/petitioning/public-petitions/ parliament.uk/about/how/guides/factsheets/procedure/p07/ why petition? “Over the past few weeks I have been collecting signatures for the petition and found it an extremely rewarding experience. It has made me revisit why I do this job and why I want to continue to do this work in the public sector. By explaining to others why the probation service should not be privatised I have come to realise the valuable job we do. I have been encouraged by friends and family who are also collecting signatures with equal enthusiasm. On Sunday I even managed to get signatures from two diehard Tories who strongly believed in privatisation until after much debate they agreed that the protection of the public was best served in the public sector by experienced probation staff. I would encourage everyone to try get at least one sheet completed and give yourself the opportunity to see how supportive people are once they understand what our work entails.” TS Napo member Bedfordshire
