Is this page a place to support the freedom, safety and dignity of women (and men)? Or is it a forum to prove the ethnic and religious superiority or inferiority of one culture over another? Any religion that puts men and boys on a higher level than women and girls is problematic, and Christianity and Judaism are therefore problematic. I am not wanting to be disrespectful or insulting but I am speaking my truth. Subordination of women in the name of respect, admiration and protection is problematic. A Jewish Israeli woman told me that when she did her military service her post was with the police in the domestic violence unit. I had assumed that she was called most often to Palestinian homes, but she told me No, she was called about equally to Jewish and Palestinian Muslim homes (of course some Palestinians are in fact Orthodox Christian) and that she had seen particularly cruel abuses in some Jewish homes, by the patriarchs towards their spouses. It is too easy to fall into smug and bigoted perspectives; I hope the point of this page is not that.
