Isaac Hayes has long been on the musical scene and he is probably most famous for one of his tunes, “Soul Man”. In the 1996 Presidential race between Bill Clinton and Bob Dole it turned out that Dole’s campaign group borrowed Hayes’ tune and turned it into “I’m a Dole man.” On this day, 1996, Mr. Hayes kindly – well, not that kindly – protested the use of his tune. I don’t think it had as much to do with politics or one party or another using it as it did the loss of bucks over its use. You’re getting the version from “The Blues Brothers”. I kind of liked Dole. He was no doubt familiar with this song, but I never considered him a “swinging dude.” youtube/watch?v=YnaSRhMB_qo
