Islamic State scores First Victory in Battle with US: Shoots Down Helicopter with Bhutanese Missile (The Chadian Chronicle). Washington, D.C.: An American Helicopter Gunship has been shot down in Iraq by the Islamic State, killing both crew members, according to Pentagon sources who wished to remain anonymous. The incident took place near a town south of Mosul called Albu Sayf, on the west bank of the Tigris river at 05:00 local time on the 16th of August. The helicopter, a twin-engined variant of the AH-1 Cobra, was deployed on a combat mission to provide aerial support to Kurdish Peshmerga fighters engaged in battle with the Islamic State. It was reportedly hit by a Bhutan-made ST-603 man-portable air-defense system (MANPAD) launched by the IS.
