Island Mariner continues its 100% whale sighting record in 2013. Three more sailings under our belt for 2013 and we continue our streak of seeing whales on every trip. On Friday, June 14, we struggled to keep our record intact but, finally, in Victoria, we spotted a transient whale, T103. Transients travel in small groups, tend to eat warm-blooded marine mammals, and are generally not seen very often. On Saturday, our passengers watched a group of transients for over an hour, as they kept busy hunting. Sunday provided the best viewing experience of the weekend, as the Island Caper came upon the transients just after they had finished dining on a harbor porpoise. The orcas must have had their fill, because they showed no interest in a nearby group of harbor seals or a passing Minke whale. Three sailing opportunities this week – Fri, Sat and Sun. Call us for reservations – 734-8866. Pix to follow later.
