Israeli Government Spokesman Mark Regev interviewed by Emily - TopicsExpress

Israeli Government Spokesman Mark Regev interviewed by Emily Maitlis on Newsnight Refreshing to see a more robust interview. How interesting it would be if a BBC interviewer deconstructed the rhetoric as it was going on. For instance, its a classic Israeli ploy that first and foremost, Regev (or other spokesperson) express supposed empathy for the victim. In fact, it usually goes like this: 1. Express empathy (otherwise Israelis come across to audiences as total brutes). 2. Cast doubt on what happened...say we need to investigate further. 3. Always blame Hamas for whatever happened. 4. We had to return fire because we were being fired at. Were not saying we did blow up the hospital/school but if we did then we were returning fire... and we gave out warnings to evacuate the hospital/school... Which were saying we didnt blow up... erm... Hamas! 5. Accuse the interviewer of being sure of her or his facts when that just isnt possible. 6. Repeat over and over again that Israel has the right to defend itself. 7. Repeat over and over again that Israel wants peace. How about a really robust interview where the BBC journalist points out exactly this PR strategy in real time, as it happens? Asa Winstanley notes via Twitter: Classic Zionist projection: terrorist war machine is actually a very good description of Israel
