Issued by MET Office: CAPARO RIVER REMAINS SWOLLEN This bulletin updates Bulletin Number 2 issued at 6 p.m. Wednesday 27th November 2013. The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) is maintaining the riverine flood alert for Trinidad, having regard to the most recent rainfall activity associated with the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). Over the past few hours, some parts of Trinidad continue to experience showers, which have been moderate to heavy in intensity. Although reports from the Water Resources Agency (WRA) indicate that water levels in most of the nation’s major rivers have receded to below threshold levels, they remain significantly high. The Caparo River in particular is swollen. Additional run-off from today’s rainfall can exacerbate conditions. The TTMS has also received reports of flooding in the following areas - Toco Road, Toco; Fishing Pond Road, Oropouche; Foster Road, Sangre Grande and the Mayaro/Manzanilla Road. Meteorological forecast and data obtained from Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models indicate further rainfall activity is expected over the next 2 to 4 hours with a gradual improvement thereafter. Citizens in general, and those residing in low-lying areas especially around and along the Caparo River in particular, are advised to be on the alert for rising river levels and possible overspill. All necessary measures MUST be taken to preserve life and property. WE WISH TO UNDERSCORE THAT AT THIS TIME TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO IS NOT UNDER ANY TROPICAL STORM THREAT, WATCH OR WARNING. The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service is closely monitoring weather conditions and will issue another bulletin at 6 p.m. today, Thursday 28th November 2013. Saide Shakeer Meteorologist
