It all started as I was getting out of my car on a beautiful sunny Southern California day in the Ikea parking lot. I opened the car door and got out, and was just moving to shut it when someone yelled. I turned to the sound and saw a woman just getting up from the pavement, her bike on top of her as an SUV sped away and screeched out of the parking lot. I ran to her and asked if she was okay and what happened. She told me the SUV had clipped her and kept driving. She seemed to be okay but I called 911 nonetheless and we reported to the police. As I finished up with the cop who was taking my statement after she had been taken by the ambulance, I headed into Ikea shaking my head at the stupidity of some drivers. I continued on about my day. After dinner that same day I headed to my Krav Maga class in Studio City. As it was November, it was getting dark at around 5:30 and my class started at 5:45. I pulled into the metered parking space and got out to plug the outrageously expensive parking meter with six quarters. After doing so, I began the two block walk to the class. There was a sweet looking older couple walking ahead of me holding hands. I smiled to myself, hoping when I was their age I had someone like that to share my life with. Then all of a sudden there was a loud wrenching sound. As I looked up I saw a rather large table being shoved out of a window above the couple. It came down fast and I was certain it would hit them if I didn’t move. I ran at them and plowed them down as it came crashing to the ground in the exact spot they had just been. It splintered into a million pieces. I helped them to their feet and apologized profusely if I had hurt either of them. The poor woman was in tears and the man was shaking like a leaf. I, for the second time that day, dialed 911 so they could be checked out by an EMT and so someone could talk to the idiot who shoved a table out of their window above.
