It always irks me to hear philosophy professors referred to as “philosophers.” People who teach “wisdom” for money are sophists. If a particular philosophy professor happens to be a philosopher, this is a great achievement, since the incentive structure of academia tends to drive academics toward the refining of technique (τέχνη) rather than toward authentic contemplation (θεωρία). That women are subject to unwanted propositioning by men who are higher up in the academic hierarchy only reinforces my belief that we need a universal social dividend to enable people to break out of existing hierarchies and form their own independent cooperative enterprises for self-sustenance. No one should have to subjugate themselves to the whims of rich men or tenured men in order to make their living while doing something they love.
