It appears that the Bait dog dealers flagged this post from the day before. Please do not post FREE dogs. Charge something, even a little as $25 - $50. We gave our dog away just slightly over a year ago. A beautiful, kind, affectionate mid size Shepard mix, 3 yrs old and fully trained. A wonderful young couple with a kid showed up and seemed to be truly enamored with our Jake. They claimed to live on 4 fenced acres and the wife didnt work. A few months ago we received a call to come pick up our Jake at the animal shelter. We told them that Jake had new owners and that it should have been transferred but they said it hadnt. We went to get Jake and to our horror we could not recognize him with all his injuries and condition. The wonderful young couple with a kid we found out, goes around getting free dogs and sells them as bait dogs for those who do not want to be seen picking up these dogs. We broke down and cried right there at the shelter especially when Jake approached us, looked up lovingly, pressed his body next to mine and whimpered, all the time I knew he was asking why we had done this to him but still forgave us. It appears that after a raid Jake was collected along with many other dogs and taken to the shelter to be treated and tracked. Three weeks after getting Jake back we had to have him put down because his injuries and infections were too severe. He was unable to lay down for more than 30 minutes at a time because he couldnt breathe properly and when he did sleep he would jar awake yelping and barking. What happened to Jake is completely our fault and we have decided never to have another dog as punishment to us as well as a constant reminder of our guilt. Those of you who post your dogs for free, if you truly love them, dont just give them away for free. If its too easy for people to make even a small profit and this will continue to happen. If someone truly wants your dog they will be willing to shell out a small fee and you should take the time if your dog is chipped to go down with the new owners and have the dog transferred. If they refuse either then they probably not worthy to have your dog. It would be better to surrender your dog to a shelter than just to give it away. Even if no one adopts your dog and they put it down at least your loving pet would not have to go through the horror our Jake had to. BTW: For those of you who think this bait dog problem is strictly along racial lines and only happens in the hood, the family who took Jake, was white! do NOT contact me with unsolicited services or offers post id: 4630798919 posted: 13 hours ago email to friend ♥ best of [?]
