It appears that the environmentalists are backing themselves into a corner. On one hand, they complain about cattle grazing causing harm to the desert ecosystem. In another of their grand schemes they want to stop carbon emissions into the environment. Now come the proposed and pre-existing solar energy farms that are being constructed in the desert. While they will reduce carbon emissions, they will also totally destroy the desert ecosystem where constructed, which also includes their current reason for protecting the desert ecosystem, yep you guessed it, the desert tortoise. While cattle grazing makes productive use of the desert, the solar energy farms will make destructive use of that same land.
