It appears that the story of the little boy, Ashya, being taken - TopicsExpress

It appears that the story of the little boy, Ashya, being taken from the hospital for treatment abroad has stirred up a lot of emotion. Indeed, it is an emotional story and topic. There is misinformation out there. It has nothing to do with them being Jehovahs Witnesses. If you really think this is about them being JWs, then you have not only fallen for the smear campaign, but dont appear to be fully informed. They consented to invasive brain surgery. It didnt work. They heard of another treatment, offered to pay privately, the consultants declined. So they removed their child from the hospital to get the treatment elswhere. Thats it. The story. Hospital, media and police smear campaign aside, theyre trying to do the best for their child. The OPINION of the consultant that it might not work is a death sentence for the boy. They have decided to try anyway. If you REALLY wanted to look at selfishness, some might consider that putting a child through another treatment that ONE hospital thinks wont work might be selfish. When we allow hospitals and doctors to dictate to us about ours and our childrens treatments, we are quickly losing our autonomy. This is something that might be being enforced on disabled and sick people in the UK. If you remember a short while ago, it was suggested by some that claimants of ESA who didnt consent to medication and treatment (irrespective of side effects and efficacy) would be sanctioned if they didnt agree. It is my opinion, that these two incidences are of similar nature. The people involved who decline someone of authoritys opinion are at risk of sanction. In the claimants case, its a financial sanction, and in the case of these parents, its a sanction of arrest. We are all very aware of the smear campaigns that the media are capable of. We just have to try not to get sucked in. Peace and love to all.
