It appears the proposed National Dialogue is being trailed by controversies which, if not properly handled can cast doubt on its credibility. President Goodluck Jonathan has hinted that resolutions from the Dialogue would be sent to the National Assembly for further debate and ratification. Some Nigerians including Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau state are not comfortable with this position. They would rather want the outcome of the conference to reflect the wishes of Nigerians and not be left to the lawmakers. The senate has also promised to provide the legal frame work for the dialogue, to which some Nigerians also kicked against. The idea of “no-go area” in the discussions is repulsive to the Christian Association of Nigeria, which prefers “everything to be brought to the table for discussion”. Again, some Nigerians have said No! to government imposed or sponsored participants. What do you make of these divergence views, will they allow the conference to have a smooth take-off?
