It could be confusing as to whether Japan as a nation is a friend - TopicsExpress

It could be confusing as to whether Japan as a nation is a friend or a foe to PNG? PNG celebrated Remembrance Day yesterday on July 23, a day in which the nation of Japan had been depicted ever since the last Great War, and within the context of a familiar WW2 narrative, as a ‘common enemy’ (to PNG and the allies). PNG recently played host to Japanese PM, Shinzo Abe, who revealed bilateral funding allocation for PNG to the tune of over K4.0 billion. Japan will also be buying most of the LNG Gas exports from PNG, thus contributing to the much-talked about hype in national wealth-creation ever experienced in the nation’s brief development history. An American company is the key player, exploiting this natural gas resource and benefiting the most in terms of generated profits and benefits-sharing arrangements in place. Yesterday, our political leaders gave speeches labelling Japan as an enemy during WW2; but, interestingly these same leaders are only too happy to sign papers without restraint when receiving Japanese AID money, displaying no sense of guilt over how they view or treat the nation of Japan during Remembrance Day celebrations every year...We do certainly live in a strange and interesting world, don’t we?...
