It doesnt really matter how much future IPCC reports retreat from their initial tale of death and destruction because an entire generation of educated westerners have been indoctrinated in to the narrative of enlightened vs ignorant, alarmist vs denier, left vs right. It is painfully obvious to see that just like Rove was able to frame the debate on national security under the Bush administration, Gore and his minions have been able to frame the debate on the climate. Critical analysis, such as the following, will never be part of the discussion in places like Berkeley or Boulder: There remains a risk that the latest science is wrong and rapid warming will occur with disastrous consequences. And if renewable energy had proved by now to be cheap, clean and thrifty in its use of land, then we would be right to address that small risk of a large catastrophe by rushing to replace fossil fuels with first-generation wind, solar and bioenergy. But since these forms of energy have proved expensive, environmentally damaging and land-hungry, it appears that in our efforts to combat warming we may have been taking the economic equivalent of chemotherapy for a cold. The good news is civilization will be fine. The bad news is an entire generation is straddled with a sense of guilt for having a high, energy-intensive standard of living. The tragic news is that disastrous policies will continue to be put in place that will hamper poor countries who are struggling to achieve a fraction of our quality of life. online.wsj/news/articles/SB10001424052702303725404579460973643962840?
