It got pretty heated last night at Middle Tennessee University when Kasim Hafeez spoke as a Muslim supporter of Israel. Especially when he explained that the Jewish people are indigenous to the land, and that Israel-- contrary to propaganda flooding the Muslim world-- is a beacon of hope to Arabs, Muslims, Jews and Christians alike. They became quite hostile when Kasim mentioned that there was never a country called Palestine (theyve been told all their lives that Israel stole the land that was called Palestine, when in reality, the new country of Palestine was supposed to exist NEXT to Israel, but the leaders chose instead to attack Israel, trying to take all the land for themselves). And heres my favorite part: The discussion relented only after Jessica Marzucco, regional coordinator for CUFI, took over the podium and addressed where the name Palestine came from historically.
