“It has been 200 years since I have stood before you. You have grown,” Pastor Steve Rodgers of the First United Methodist Church in London told the 300 people who had gathered under a tent at the Madison County Historical Society to celebrate the church’s bicentennial (Sunday) morning. “Two hundred years ago, when I would stand to preach to an audience of such magnitude, I would have preached for 2 1/2 to 3 hours,” he said to laughter. “You all are safe, however, because I can smell good cooking over yonder, and I think I will try to be brief.”
