It has been a successful day so far, more or less, after - TopicsExpress

It has been a successful day so far, more or less, after breakfasting with some friends. I think that after breakfast, if it is good enough, I don’t need to worry about food, (not that I do) for the rest of the day, and the day usually goes well. And so it was today. I worked on the generator problem this morning and it turned out graver than I had expected. I took off the pull start mechanism which is what I thought was the issue. Then I tried to turn the crankshaft by hand. Of course I shouldn’t be able to rotate it but guess what? It turned without much resistance. I don’t think it was moving the pistons and valve gear, it must be an extension on the crank that has sheared a pin or key or some such. Oddly enough, I can turn it backwards with some resistance and then turn it forwards with resistance but for only one turn. I am pretty sure God is messing with my mind again. But hey! I pulled out the dead old generator, exchanged the spark plug and spark wire which I recall raiding for another fix way back. I added some oil. Keep in mind, this generator has been sitting outside next to the van couch where I sit and watch the yaks or whatever needs watching and its only duty has been to hold donuts and coffee for me since it more or less died last winter. It has and not even seen even a pull start or prayer since it died. Its existence was purely for parts. But VAROOM, the darn thing fired back up and registered 120 V plus on the generator. Yeah, God is messing with me for sure. Why the hell did I park it? Because it had a bum spark plug? Surely I hope not. Nevertheless, it ran so I genuflected, blessed myself, and gave a thumbs up to God. Cheap power once again! Then I had a beer and moved on to another task. I don’t recall what it was. But looking out over the pasture I can see no one is hurt and I am still standing so it must have gone alright. Oh! I remember. I cleaned out the hallway next to the bathroom and brought everything out (without even looking at it) to the junk pile because the handyman is coming tomorrow to haul my shit away. If I look into the box or container I will say . . .”Oh, I might need that!” and it will hang around for another 11 years. No sir. Books, old cds and all . . . to the dump. I think I also threw out my sink, but that’s ok. It must not have been working to be where I found it. Then, I spent an hour or so with Peanut the yak and we discussed life . . . over a second beer. Oh yes, I am now armed with a new perspective. His vision, after two beers, is so damn clear. What a guy! What would I do without Peanut (and little Jeannie-Lin)? Ain’t life grand? I might just bring Peanut in the house this evening for . . . oh hell, just for ambiance.
