It has been almost a week since the devastating tornadoes blew through Peoria and the surrounding area with Washington, IL.(across the river from Peoria) being hit the hardest. It is reminiscent of Katrina but on a smaller scale. Hundreds of people left homeless rather than thousands. As in all smaller communities, everyone knows someone who lost everything. There are people from Louisiana who have arrived to give back. Please keep all of these people in your prayers as they struggle to rebuild their lives and their community. Now I know why all the houses have basements. Many , many people would not be alive today if not for the refuge of their basements. Once the tornado sirens start blaring, there is only a short amount of time to get to the basement. While hurricanes are totally bad news, at least you know they are coming.
