It has been an interesting day, partly bizarre, partly fascinating when considering the technological aspects. All from the comfort of my home office I did a bit of work for my little business. Picked up a new client vis a vie a nice referral from one of my favorite current clients, and got some invoice work done, filed a lot of emails in their folders, set some appointments, and picked up some new work. The bizarre comes in when I reflect on the fact that I was able to have my long lost and recently deceased brother, Stephens body burned to ashes, and all on the computer and a follow up phone call. It is all a bit unnerving when I reflect on it. My youngest brother and his wife are in Seattle to handle the final aspects of our brothers life after not knowing anything of him for over 25 years. I am finished with what work I plan to do today, and have an old Bogie - Bacall pic on the player, the Big Sleep. I made some potato salad, and took it up a notch with some spicy mustard. I have a pork tenderloin finishing up in the oven and plan on having a sandwich out of that with some of the spud salad. It is cold out and some old fashioned Southern comfort food seems very appropriate. Jon and I spent a good deal of time recalling our brother and catching up with one another. A hot sandwich and some potato salad with some cheese and grapes for desert over an old movie will give me some time to let all of this sink in a bit. When the first of your brothers dies it gives one pause. My own mortality and creeping age is brought to mind, of course. What do I feel about all of this, is not all that clear just now. The impersonal aspect of disposing of him over the computer lets me know how far our lives have changed in my lifetime. Jon is adding the personal touch and is my eyes and ears on the ground to do the howling of the clan for our fallen. We two, old men voice to each other a calm acceptance of his and soon to be, our own fate. Life goes on for another day. The Irish in me speaks quietly to an inner ear. Goodbye Stephen, rest well.
