It has been argued that the jallikattu is a Veeravilayattu, sport of bravery, a cultural heritage, celebrating the bravery of common people . Cultural traditions do provide a tried and tested framework within which a society can shape itself to its best advantage. And utility has always been a prime factor . Such traditions as were found not useful or redundant to society in any given time were discarded or modified. This has been the norm throughout history. ( even in religious traditions, we see that reigning spirit gods like Mithra and Varuna of early vedic age, gave way to more sophisticated embodiments of philosophy like Vishnu and Shiva.) Such being the case, a crowd of 50 or 60 people terrorising a lone bull in the name of testing bravery hardly makes any sense when society has moved lightyears away from a pastoral or nomadic lifestyle where confronting wild animals was a very real problem that needed tackling skills . People should put themselves in the bulls place and imagine the scene , before voicing support for retaining Jallikattu as a sport. youtu.be/Qkl32EXofSU
