It has been determined by God that every person has some kind of cross in this life, i.e., a spiritual sorrow which he must bear undisturbedly, for there is not any benefit from faintheartedness and impatience. And since many are the tribulations of the righteous people in this life, then how much more must we sinners endure. St. Anthony of Optina Beloved in Christ, As I write I am in waiting for my connecting flight to New York, where I will attend funeral services for Metropolitan Philip. The last two days in Louisville have been very beautiful. The funeral services for Fr. Alexander Atty were prayerful and beautiful (the choir at St. Michaels church is one of the best in the country). The number of people in attendance was a testament to the love and pastoral care Fr. Alexander gave to that parish for over 30 years and to others he touched as Dean of St. Tikhons Seminary and all his ministries. Reminder: Little Compline with the Akathist to the Theotokos will be sung Friday evening at St. Mark at 7:00 p.m. God willing, I will return to Southern California last Saturday night and see you all at St. Mark Sunday morning.
