It has been interesting to see how the press covers the events of the last few days and how minor details are changed according to the whim of the reporter. The changes are subtle, so to the casual reader they would go unnoticed, but they are significant enough to change meanings and left unchecked can paint a wholly different interpretation. Take for example this article: theatlantic/politics/archive/2015/01/john-boehner-and-the-question-of-revenge/384293/ The reporter misinterprets my comments to another reporter regarding the removal of my friends from their committees for voting against the Speaker. I said that those actions were something Vladimir Putin would do. Not anywhere during that statement did I call or compare Speaker Boehner to Putin. I simply meant those actions were something youd see in a communist country. I strongly disagree with what the Speaker did, but I try to stay away from petty personal attacks and name calling. Seemingly a minor distinction, however, my point here is that there are enough debates and disagreements on real issues and policies. We dont have time to argue the ones devised by reporters. It is time we held reporters accountable for sloppy reporting and point out when they are inaccurate or editorializing what should be fact. We are blessed to have freedom of the press, however, with that blessing comes a solemn responsibility to report the news (if you are a reporter), not an agenda.
