It has been over three years since I tried to go on a sabbatical. I could not find a substitute priest and so my trip to Rome was canceled. Now I am beginning to look ahead to next year, maybe in the fall, to try again. The same problem as before will be in finding priest coverage. Not sure where to apply this time. There is a Jesuit program in California I like, also one in San Antonio by the Oblates. The parishes are covered with good staff and with the help of my two vicars. The jail ministry is a different challeng and one that has many possibilities. We shall see.
