It has indeed been a rough lead up to Christmas, weve seen a lot of tragedy recently, and overall, this year hasnt really given us much cause for celebration or joy. Yes, we all know just how much christmas has been taken over by cynical money making enterprise, and that the origins of Christmas itself are quite obscure, even questionable. Here the southern hemisphere, therell be no reindeer dashing through the snow. And too many homeless people will be spending this christmas alone.... there are more reasons to bemoan christmas than to honour it. But if we strip it all down, strip it all back, to Chris (t)mas - then Christmas, in its truest sense, is about love. Love is mostly kind, but love is always magnificent. And love is fluid, and dynamic, so why focus on what christmas has become, when instead, we could focus on what it could be? Start your own tradition, and let christmas mean what you want it to mean. The best reason to celebrate christmas, is that we find it so hard this year to find reasons to celebrate christmas. Love and light, and deepest joy to all.
