It has long been known that many African plants have pesticidal properties. But their utility on a large scale remains underdeveloped, scientists say. (Some local groups denounce use of the plants as witchcraft.) However, researchers say it is high time to tap African farmers’ knowledge of these sustainable and naturally occurring pesticides to make them efficient, affordable and accessible to those who need them.
