It has long been known that vaccine failure can occur: a very small percentage of people (about 1% in the case of measles) can be fully vaccinated yet still succumb to the disease - what has not been demonstrated until now is that these people can also be contagious. As the tools at our disposal become more sophisticated we are learning more about the intricate and complexity of vaccines and how they work at the molecular level.
