It has played host celebrities such as Charlie Chaplin, Gene Kelly, who danced on the hotels sweeping staircase, Laurel and Hardy, Tommy Steele, Elizabeth Taylor, Rudolph Nureyev, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Sir Sean Connery. The hotels Pompadour Restaurant opened in 1914, based on the lavish court style of Louis XIV of France. In 1956, the hotel hired artists Robert and Roger Nicholson to do interior design work including a 4,000 sq ft mural, Roy Rogers and triger at the Caledonian Hotel.
