It is a known fact that the Vice chancellor of University of Hyderabad, Prof Ramakrishna Ramaswamy has sub mitted his resignation to MHRD and the same was also reported in the news papers. It is interesting that after tendering his resignation and even after making announcements of the same, the VC is taking major decisions and moving towards launching new programmes just before his leaving. The urgency with which certain actions are being implemented before he leaves points to the fact that he is in a haste to shower certain favours on some chosen few. One such glaring act is the proposal to inaugurate the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences in a hurry on 27.12.14. This is being done in spite of strong opposition from the student community, many faculty as well as key people in the administration except for the VC and PVC. The inauguration of the proposed School of Earth and Environmental Sciences has a history of severe controversy that questions the very integrity and objectivity of the administration. The records provide clear evidence that the administration’s decision to upgrade UCESS is guided by personal favouritism to a professor of UCESS. The Professor whom the administration is trying to favour has a history of harassing women Ph.D scholars from marginalised communities. This was even reported in the national news papers. The administration did not hesitate to distort the minutes, mislead the Executive Council and deny relevant information sought under RTIs. Following points prove the statement. 68th Academic Council clearly recommended that the up gradation of any centre should be, on the basis of certain common academic parameters. Minutes of the AC meeting distorted the facts in favour of University Centre for Earth and Space Sciences( UCESS) RTI’s were filed to provide the audio CD of 68th Academic Council in order to verify and prove the fact about the decision. The response to the RTIs said, the CD was with VC and hence the RTIs were being forwarded to VC, but did not provide copies of CD (Response to RTI enclosed) Proposal of UCESS up gradation into School of Earth and Environmental Sciences was placed in 155th Executive Council (EC). The EC advised to take it back to Academic Council for a thorough discussion on the ramifications of the proposed up gradation. Thus the proposal should have gone for a discussion in the 69th AC. This was not complied. Instead the EC was deceived in the following way The proposal was placed again in 158th EC where the members were given an impression as if the EC’s advice was complied with and the proposal was taken back to the AC discussed and recommended. Thus, the misled EC approved starting of School. Hence, the very process of obtaining Executive Council approval is questionable. In case the audio CD proves that there is no clear recommendation for starting School without deciding common academic parameters, then inauguration of School of Earth and Environmental Sciences should be cancelled until the time the common academic parameters are decided. On this grounds we discussed with VC he said on the larger interest of campus community.. He wont go ahead with his decision of inaugurating school.. But he ones again failed in keeping up his assurance and going ahead with inaugurating a school against wish and will of campus community at C V Raman auditorium 10:30 am tomorrow.. We are resisting the move of VC. We are not against school and expansion of university as there is manipulation happened in procedural level we are calling for a protest tomorrow
