It is believed that Hinduism is not a religion but a way of life based on the principle of dharma ((Dharma signifies behaviors that are considered to be in accord with order that makes life and universe possible and includes duties, rights, laws, conduct, virtues and ‘‘right way of living’’. ) Any digression of dharma even in the minutest degree is visited with appropriate retribution on the person who digresses, in the immediate or far future. Hindu scriptures speak on the importance of dharma and how it has got be zealously preserved.Even the Supreme Soul, the creator of the universe, has pledged to incarnate on the earth if there is a serious threat to the dharma and raise of adharma. . Adi Shankaracharya In his Baja Govindam composition says that even chanting of vedas, mantras etc. which are part of the scriptures will not salvage a person at the time his death if he has not followed the tenets of dharma. The salvation of the human soul (the life force) in him lies in the reunion with the Supreme Soul (God), which has parted from the Supreme Soul due to certain Divine design. The human soul is willy-nilly continuously, engaged in union with the Supreme Soul but is thwarted by Maya or illusion caused by desires for material wealth. Hence our ancient rishis after observing the sufferings the people undergo in their lives, deeply meditated and unraveled the mystery of life and death. They realised that only the Knowledge of Self, which is obtained by surrendering the results of the actions to the altar of the Supreme Being ab initio and doing selfless service to the humanity, can reunite the human soul with the Supreme Soul. All faithful followers of Hinduism, other spiritual leaders including Shirdi Sai Baba, even eminent personalities like Albert Einstein, certain spiritual leaders of other religions subscribed to this view and guided common people to understand and follow this. Whatever is worshiped in temples be it idol, photos, trees, animals etc. are only like a ladder to propel the worshiper towards the union with the Supreme Soul
