I learnt recently that it is part of our African values to take along a gift when visiting or consulting an elder, though it is obvious he/she may have more than enough in our estimation. Is it bribery and corruption? Nope, it is thoughtfulness. Everyone has needs and when you care about someone, you would most likely discover an area of need where you could be a channel of blessing. So a gift doesnt always have to be money, we mostly lose the rare opportunity to PRAY for people when we encounter them. It begins with selflessness, thoughtfulness, sensitivity, sacrifice, contentment, godliness all under the banner of love. Thereafter, the universal principle applies: Give and it will come back to you; a good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over... I need to go make amends!
