It is better to give than to receive! We all have something to offer, rich or poor, tall or short, weak or strong, etc If youre taller, Im definitely shorter - Bishop Jonathan That is why it is improper to always beg or expect to receive in every exchange, experience, encounter or transaction. I learnt recently that it is part of our African values to take along a gift when visiting or consulting an elder, though it is obvious he/she may have more than enough in our estimation. Is it bribery and corruption? Nope, it is thoughtfulness. Everyone has needs and when you care about someone, you would most likely discover an area of need where you could be a channel of blessing. So a gift doesnt always have to be money, we mostly lose the rare opportunity to PRAY for people when we encounter them. It begins with selflessness, thoughtfulness, sensitivity, sacrifice, contentment, godliness all under the banner of love. Thereafter, the universal principle applies: Give and it will come back to you; a good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over... I need to go make amends! Then she gave the king 120 talents of gold, and a very great quantity of spices and precious stones. Never again came such an abundance of spices as these that the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon. Moreover, the fleet of Hiram, which brought gold from Ophir, brought from Ophir a very great amount of almug wood and precious stones. And the king made of the almug wood supports for the house of the Lord and for the king’s house, also lyres and harps for the singers. No such almug wood has come or been seen to this day. And King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all that she desired, whatever she asked besides what was given her by the bounty of King Solomon. So she turned and went back to her own land with her servants. (1 Kings 10:10-13 ESV)
