It is difficult to fathom it being years. Seems like last month or so she was on the group page making great comments. One of the hardest things about depression is that you feel like no-one wants to hear how bad you feel, and that just reinforces the depression. You struggle with finding positive things to say because they are rare in your life and no-one wants to hear Feeling depressed and no-one cares, even though that is your normal status. For me, suicidal ideation has always been triggered by crisis, my attempts occurring during times of being overwhelmed by negative emotion, despair, hopelessness and isolation. And yes, you can feel all that in the bosom of family and friends. Sometimes that is even worse. Why cant they see how much pain youre in? Never mind that you have become deft at hiding your feelings, deflecting inquiries and hiding behind a carefully constructed mask. If I may add to Edwards prescription; talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words. A broken promise to a depressed person tells them they are not valued. Consider the Support Our Troops campaign by many while Veterans services, pensions and benefits are cut, active military are on food stamps and their children starve. Actions speak. What do yours say.
